Gui Zhi is the year’s branches, the wood still tender and the bark fine, cut in spring into oblique sections of about three centimetres then sun-dried. They come as small pale brown cylinders, hard, showing at the cut a thin ring of bark around a pale wood; the cinnamon aroma in them is lighter, fresher and woodier than in the trunk bark.
